Nestled on the banks of the River Severn just a five minute drive from Ironbridge is the Maws Craft Centre home of Layfamilyyarn HQ and dye studio.
A yarn dyeing workshop in the Layfamilyyarn studio will be the highlight of the weekend. Before you are let loose in the studio there will be a demonstration of different styles and techniques and an opportunity for you to pick some dye colours to test out before choosing your final colours. (Please note there is a flight of stairs to climb to access the studio)
In small groups with your hand held every step of the way you will produce a beautiful unique skein of yarnto take home with you. For the second year we will are bringing back the Woollay retreat palatte pack; a collection of mini skeins that you and your fellow retreaters will help to create. You will all take home a collection of mini skeins dyed by each other.
Having run several retreats now we know the perfect combination is a mix of some structured activity with plenty of time to sit, relax, craft, chat and build friendships all served up with good food and plenty of refreshments! Being based in the local village hall we have plenty of space for you to bring all the project bags you can dream of, you could even bring your spinning wheel!
Lunch on the Saturday will be served in the village hall by the same catering company we used throughout 2021. At the end of a fun filled day dyeing yarn, crafting and chatting we will stroll the few meters along the river to the local pub where we will sit round the fire share an evening meal and chat the night away.
Sunday morning we will regroup at Layfamilyyarn HQ, there will be an opportunity to visit the artisan makers and artists within the Maws craft centre for any shopping you may wish to do. Your hand dyed yarn creations will be presented to you late morning back at the village hall. A light lunch will be served before we say our farewells and part company at around 3pm.
Accommodation is not included and is to be arranged by you, however we will provide a list of local bed and breakfasts and hotels that we have used before and come highly recommended. We would suggest booking early as they do get full quickly.
For anybody arriving on the Friday night we will host an informal knit and natter in the local pub, a great way to have a giggle, eat a meal and get to know each other beforehand. Any food and drink consumed on the Friday night is an additional cost to yourself.
The total cost of the retreat is £250.00 the final balance is due 6 weeks before arrival, failure to meet that payment will result in a cancellation of booking. In the event of any covid restriction been placed we will return and refund all monies paid.
