introduction
Thank you for expressing an interest in our WoolLay retreat, the ethos of all our events is to provide a friendly relaxed environment for friendships to blossom over our shared love of knitting, crochet and all things yarn related.
Nestled on the banks of the River Severn just a five minute drive from Ironbridge is the Maws Craft Centre home of Layfamilyyarn HQ and dye studio.
A yarn dyeing workshop in the Layfamilyyarn studio will be the highlight of the weekend. Before you are let loose in the studio there will be a demonstration of the techniques you will be using from Nick (Please note there is a flight of stairs to climb to access the studio)
In small groups with your hand held every step of the way you will produce a beautiful unique skein of yarn to take home with you. For the sixth year we will are bringing back the Woollay retreat bouquet; a collection of mini skeins that you and your fellow retreaters will help to create. You will all take home a collection of mini skeins dyed by each other.
what to expect over the weekend:
Having run several retreats now we know the perfect combination is a mix of some structured activity with plenty of time to sit, relax, craft, chat and build friendships all served up with good food and plenty of refreshments! Being based in our creative hub located within HQ we have plenty of space for you to bring all the project bags you can dream of.
Meals and refreshments
Food, drink and snacks are all catered for while you are at the retreat, we fully appreciate the energy needed to continue crafting and chatting all day, fear not the drinks and snacks will be kept flowing!!
lunch on the Saturday will be buffet style with a selection of quiche, salads, cooked meats and hot snacks (vegetarian, gluten free and vegan can be catered for) At the end of a fun filled day dyeing yarn we will stroll the few meters along the river to the local pub where we will share an evening meal and chat the night away. You will access to the pub menu prior to arrival for you to chose your main meal from. **any drinks purchased from the bar as well as desserts are at your cost**
Day 2:
Sunday morning we will regroup at Layfamilyyarn HQ, there will be an opportunity to visit the artisan makers and artists within the Maws craft centre for any shopping you may wish to do. Your hand dyed yarn creations will be presented to you late morning, A light lunch will be served before we say our farewells and part company at around 2.30pm
Accommodation:
Accommodation is not included and is to be arranged by you, however we will provide a list of local bed and breakfasts and hotels that we have used before and come highly recommended. We would suggest booking early as they do get full quickly.
Friday night social:
For anybody arriving on the Friday night we will host an informal knit and natter in the local pub, a great way to have a giggle, eat a meal and get to know each other beforehand.
Cost of the retreat:
The cost of the retreat is £270.00 per person which includes lunches, evening meal and unlimited tea, coffee and soft drinks at Layfamilyyarn HQ. (Drinks in the pub on the Saturday night are not included additionally any refreshments you require on the Friday evening are at your expense
A £20 save your seat fee will be required on booking followed by a £50 deposit which will secure your place and the balance is due 8 weeks before arrival.
