Nestled on the banks of the River Severn just a five minute drive from Ironbridge is the Maws Craft Centre home of Layfamilyyarn HQ and dye studio.
A yarn dyeing workshop in the Layfamilyyarn studio will be the highlight of the weekend. Before you are let loose in the studio you will go through your inspiration picture with Nick and choose the colours for your skeins; there will also be a demonstration of the dye technique you will be using.
In small groups with your hand held every step of the way you will produce a beautiful unique skein of yarn to take home with you. To complement your skein of yarn you will also dye part of a Woollay retreat palatte pack; a collection of mini skeins that you and your fellow retreaters will help to create. You will all take home a collection of mini skeins dyed by each other.
Having run several retreats now we know the perfect combination is a mix of some structured activity with plenty of time to sit, relax, craft, chat and build friendships all served up with good food and plenty of refreshments! We were delighted with how the new creative hub worked during our 2023/2024 retreat seasons, it really is the most perfect space for our retreats.
Lunch on the Saturday will be a buffet style with a wide selection of sweet and savoury options. At the end of a fun filled day dyeing yarn we will stroll the few meters along the river to the local pub where we will sit round the fire share an evening meal and chat the night away. Food and drinks at HQ as well as your evening meal in the pub are included in the price but Drinks and desserts at the pub are at your expense.
Sunday morning we will regroup at Layfamilyyarn HQ, there will be an opportunity to visit the artisan makers and artists within the Maws craft centre for any shopping you may wish to do. Your hand dyed yarn creations will be presented to you late morning along with raffle prizes and the much converted golden handshake from Nick! A light lunch will be served before we say our farewells and part company at around 14:30 -15:00.
What’s included in the price?
All yarn dyeing materials, one 100g skein of yarn and a bouquet of minis dyed by you and your fellow retreat attendees.
All hospitality at Layfamilyyarn HQ: hot and cold drinks, homemade biscuits and flapjacks, buffet style lunch, cake and nibbles!
Evening meal at the Pub on Saturday night (excluding drinks and desserts)
Sunday morning biscuits and refreshments, homemade soup and cheese scones for lunch and all the cake you can eat.
Accomodation
Accommodation is not included and is to be arranged by you, however we will provide a list of local bed and breakfasts and hotels that we have used before and come highly recommended. We would suggest booking early as they do get full quickly.
For anybody arriving on the Friday night we will host an informal knit and natter in the local pub, a great way to have a giggle, eat a meal and get to know each other beforehand.
Terms and conditions:
Balance of the retreat is due 6 weeks prior to arrival date. An invoice will be sent at least 8 weeks prior to your email address for you to pay at your convenience.
Cancellations: a full refund will be issued for any cancellations up until 4 weeks before arrival date, after which the deposit will be withheld. If any cancellation is made within the 4 weeks prior to arrival we will do our best to fulfil the space from any waiting list or we will forward you’re booking to the following year.
We require a minimum number of guests per retreat to make it viable, if this number is not met we will of course refund any monies paid.
